Unrequited Love

It was not love at first sight; I never even thought I felt for you that way

I still don’t know how we got together

What we had was far from perfect; it was perfect in its own imperfections

I tried, and I tried my best to make it work

I never wanted the “lived happily ever after” ending

I just wished for a life with you; with all its ups and downs

What I do know is that I still love you; my heart still aches for you

But the closer I got to you, the farther I was getting from you

You were like sand in one’s hand- gone the moment you feel you have it

You were like a fleeting dream

I love the times we spent together

But I love even more the time I wanted to know you better
